Madhuri, Bibhu bag Mahasuara Memorial Award

Odisha`s first international woman cricketer Madhuri Meheta and BCCI Level-I umpire Bibhu Satpathy were conferred with Saroj Mahasuara Memorial Awards in a function here at Rameswar Sporting Club, Old Town today on the occasion of 10th death anniversary of cricket umpire Saroj Mahasuara, who died in a road accident in 2002.

Bolangir lass Meheta, who made her international debut in a T-20 match against West Indies at St Kitts earlier this year, took the award as the up-coming cricketer of the year.

Satpathy of Cuttack became the fourth umpire to receive the award, which was instituted three years ago. The 43-year-old umpire has so far officiated around 600 matches, including one in Ranji Trophy and 32 in BCCI women`s tournaments.

Past recipients of the award include cricketers Deepak Mangaraj (2004), Paresh Patel (2005), Atish Jena (2006), Alok Sahu, Alok Mangaraj (both 2007), Haladhar Das (2008), Basant Mohanty (2009), Natraj Behera (2010), Soumendra Das (2011) and umpires Arun Kumar Basa (2009), Subrat Das (2010), Mario Francis (2011).
